Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are among the evergreen couples of Bollywood who have spent a lifetime together. Back in 1973, on this very day, the superstar of Bollywood got hitched with another superstar and a beautiful journey of their life began. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have been married for 46 years now, and as they celebrate their wedding anniversary, their son and actor, Abhishek Bachchan didn’t fail to wish them with an adorable picture and a sweet message.
On their anniversary, Amitabh revealed in a blog post how a trip to celebrate the success of his film Zanjeer was the reason behind their wedding.
“Marriage had been decided among us .. nothing to be exaggerated or celebrated with any aplomb .. just the two families and .. done .. Off to London, my first trip ever and hers too.. Zanjeer a success and a promise that if it did well we would all – a gang of our friends – would go on a holiday to London!” he wrote.
When Amitabh informed his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan that he was going to London with friends, the latter asked him if Jaya was accompanying them. He also set a condition: Amitabh and Jaya would have to get married if they were going on the trip together.
“Pandit and family informed .. Next day all set… Flight at night… marriage to finish before the flight,” the actor wrote in the blog post.
Revealing how their wedding went down, Amitabh wrote, “I dress up in formal marriage Indian .. Get into my car and want to drive to Malabar Hill where her friends lived and where the ceremony was to be done. My driver Nagesh, pushes me out and insist he would drive me to the wedding… the substitute for the tradition horse… Waiting all set at Mangal, the name of the house on rent on the 7th road JVPD Scheme… and it begins to drizzle… Neighbors rush out to me… leave for the wedding now… the rain is a good omen… Off I went… Wedding over in a few hours… done… Mr. and Mrs. proclaimed… over!!”
Earlier in an interview when Jaya was asked about love blossoming between the two them she said, “I was introduced to him on the sets of Guddi. I was impressed by him and somewhat in awe as he was Harivanshrai Bachchan’s son. I felt he was different, though people laughed at me when I said that. I expressed my feelings and said he’s going to make it big, even though I was aware he wasn’t the usual stereotype hero. I fell in love with him very soon.”
We have all been witnessing their love blossoming throughout and they have been giving “Couple Goals”!!
